Getting engagement up

Their previous Totara LMS with Learning Pool had limited LMS functionality, which presented several challenges around employee engagement and compliance training. The team at Dorset Council needed a more modern approach to learning and development, one that would provide a better return on investment and give their employees an engaging user experience.

Thrive was the answer

Dorset Council’s L&D team chose to move away from a traditional learning management system and look for a more modern solution. An intuitive look and feel were essential to increase usability across the organisation. Lauren Gosson, L&D Consultant at Dorset Council shared why they chose Thrive:

“Our old system was very much a one size fits all approach, we wanted to move towards a much more modern, user-friendly learning platform. We did a lot of market research and Thrive was the most intuitive.

Thrive gives us better engagement and an improved user experience. The advanced performance insights and reporting will help us to understand user behaviours and preferences more and develop our learning resources as we go”.

As well as reporting and insights, one of the key features that stood out for Dorset Council is user generated content, as it's something that wasn't supported in their previous platform. The ability for learners to share useful resources with their colleagues will help the team at Dorset Council foster a social learning culture and extract knowledge from department silos.

As a large organisation with many different services, they have also found pathways are a useful tool to target specific learning courses to different audiences which ensures their employees are up to date with compliance training.

Countdown to launch

The upgrade process was seamless. In the run-up to launch, Dorset Council ran a countdown campaign releasing a series of comms and teaser videos that increased anticipation and excitement for the launch of their new platform. The first week after launch, their platform experienced an impressive 3,433 content views with their most popular topics including health and safety and equality and diversity.
