Inspired by Notting Hill Carnival, Rum Kitchen's mission is simple: "Be More Carnival!" With four restaurants in London and Brighton, they celebrate Caribbean flavors, rum cocktails, and jerk BBQ, all set to the beats of resident DJs. At the heart of it all are Rum Kitchen's people.

Their old LMS wasn’t to their taste

Prior to Thrive, The Rum Kitchen was using Litmos LMS – but the platform wasn’t easily customisable, the user interface was clunky, and the close-knit customer support they craved just wasn’t there. As a result, they started to look at upgrading to a platform that was truly intuitive. They had their mostly Gen Z learners in mind, wishing to empower them to create and share their own content, interact with each other, and customise learning pathways.

The new platform had to be accessible on any device, support a rich array of media formats, and provide personalised recommendations. The Rum Kitchen wanted to provide their people valuable skills and product knowledge, whether in the kitchen, on the bar, front of house, or on the move.

The answer? Thrive.

By using Thrive’s next-gen learning platform, The Rum Kitchen made menus, recipes, allergen charts, knife skills, food safety and hygiene training instantly accessible to their people in one, digital place.

They’ve also used Thrive to support their development paths named ‘The Rum Ages’, making sure their people could continue to progress and develop, even when they were physically apart through lockdown and limited opening hours. Thrive has also been used to connect The Rum Kitchen’s teams around the company’s story and brand values. Campaigns including Black History Month highlight what’s important to Rum Kitchen and its Caribbean culture, encouraging people to share their own ideas, content and inspiration in the process.

Continuous knowledge-sharing

In an industry that faces tough compliance measures and random hygiene spot checks, staff knowledge is particularly important -- and with the help of Thrive, all of Rum Kitchen’s restaurants have been awarded a 5-star hygiene rating.

Engagement has also seen an impressive increase:

  • The Rum Kitchen achieved 82% user adoption within the first 6 months of using Thrive
